Principal
Mr. Overton is most proud of his 2 sons. Fisher and Luke. As much as possible, he enjoys spending time with them in the Smoky Mountains or at an Atlanta Braves game.
He began his career with Jefferson County Schools as a teacher at Dandridge Elementary. He served as he principal at Talbott Elementary and Rush Strong School before coming to Maury Middle School.

- Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Tusculum College
- Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership at Lincoln Memorial University
Mr. Overton believes serving the parents, students, and teachers of Jefferson County is a tremendous privilege and hopes to see us all working together to enrich the lives of our students.
Assistant Principal
Mrs. Emily Gwinn is a 2002 graduate of Emory and Henry College where she earned her BA degree in English Literature. In 2005, she earned her MEd in Secondary Curriculum. This summer, she will complete her EdS in Instructional Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University. Mrs. Gwinn began her career in education in 2005 with Hamblen County Schools. She taught 9-12 English at Morristown East High School and Miller Boyd Alternative School. In 2018, she became the Instructional Facilitator for Morristown East High School. This year, she is joining Jefferson County’s Maury Middle School as the Assistant Principal.
Mrs. Gwinn is married to Jonathan Gwinn, and they have two sons, ages 6 and 8.
